Subject:<\/strong> Burma: Sending a message or two or three or four… to China<\/p>\n

HOW TO HELP BURMA?<\/p>\n

If everybody we know emails a request (not for tickets, but for
\nChina’s action for Burma) to \" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>, it will
\nsignificantly slow down Olympics ticket sales and call China’s
\nattention to the matter. China may ignore protests, hunger strikes,
\npetitions, wearing-red shirts, etc. But China cannot ignore these
\nemails, which get in the way of processing Olympics ticket requests.<\/p>\n

Please see the template at the bottom. Please also pledge to send the
\nsame email every 6 hours, or every time you check your email. If they
\nget tens of thousands of email a day, they will have to do something
\nabout it.<\/p>\n

WHY?<\/p>\n

China should use its leverage to bring reconciliation and peace in
\nBurma. However, it recently vetoed a Security Council resolution on
\nBurma. Yet with the threat of Olympics boycott, China has yielded
\nsignificantly to condemn Sudan’s genocidal regime.<\/p>\n

Please note that this action is NOT a call to boycott the Olympics.

Dear Sirs\/Madams,<\/p>\n

I am very interested in purchasing tickets to some of the events at
\nnext year’s Olympic games.<\/p>\n

However I cannot, in good conscience, attend the Beijing Olympics
\nunless your government uses its influence to improve the political
\nsituation in Burma. China has substantial economic interests in the
\ncountry, provides large amounts of economic aid, and invests heavily
\nin infrastructure projects there. Additionally, your government
\nprovides extensive logistical support to Burma’s military government.
\nAll this make China uniquely placed to influence it.<\/p>\n

The people of Burma have, in a very peaceful manner, insisted that
\ntheir rights be respected. I ask no more of your government than that
\nit cease its support for the current regime, and encourage dialog with
\nthe democratically elected representatives of the Burmese nation.<\/p>\n

I, the Burmese people, and the world would be grateful for your
\nassistance in this matter. Your courage will go a long way towards
\nmaking the 2008 Olympics a success.<\/p>\n
