Taken in a touristy shop along Istanbul’s famous Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), this photo features the famous Turkish glass mosaic lamps. I’m not sure about the origins of them, whether they’re Middle Eastern, Central Asian or from other regions or just from Turkey, but they’re undeniably associated with Turkey. Every one of them is very unique and very beautiful and they make a great object for photography, don’t you think?
I see there are quite a bit of mosaic lamps on Amazon, what lamps do you prefer? The mosaic lamps there or the ones above? Though the ones on Amazon are true works of art, I prefer the more exotic ones.
Can anyone tell me more about the origins of these lamps? Can anyone tell me how to take these lamps on a long busride or airflight without breaking them?

Oh my goodness! I would love to wander around in that shop. Yes, it makes a beautiful photograph.
I like these lamps for their exotic beauty as well as a great subject for photography. π
They are such a piece of art! They remind me of the big red Chinese lanterns which hang up high during the Mid-Autumn Festival each year.
I love mosaic glass lamps…..the colours are so beautiful! Yes, would make a great photo object. I like photographing lamps π
Those lamps are striking indeed! I would love to own one!!! I’ll have to see if Tullumba.com have any for sale.
Bas, I actually shipped one to the US and it arrived broken. They are beautiful. Mine was a fairly large one and it was crated and packed with all the protective foam and bubble and still it broke. Probably bad luck. I was beside myself as it had cost a pretty penny but the insurance I took out gave me back the money.
Greetings from Scotland. I love the picture, and I love the lamps more! My husband’s brother just bought an apartment in Turkey and we hope we could go there someday – good news is as an Indonesian, I don’t need a visa.
Have a good weekend!
Hi Baz,
What a display… reminds me a bit of the 70s art. Will be interestign to see where they do originate from.
my dad makes wonderful Turkish Lamps!!!!! Made and sold in the United States. No broken pieces to worry about. -Justin justinkeiththomas [at] gmail [dot] com
I was recently in Instanbul. Got a great photo of the lamps myself. Ordered one for my own home and it was sent directly with no problem. Just can’t seem to find the right bulbs, yet. Anyone out there have one of these?
Geri, you will not find the right bulbs in US since the piece is European – i.e. only European bulbs would fit. what you can do is to change the part where the bulb screws into – then any bulb would fit. home depot would be the place to get. they are also sold on internet..
