About this Blog

Quite simply put, this is a blog about my life. I’ve started to label myself as a serial expat, since I moved from Holland to Bulgaria in August 2007, from Bulgaria back to Holland in January 2008, from Holland to Istanbul in August 2008, and then from Istanbul to Bulgaria again in January 2009.

I am thus blogging about my experiences living abroad. The blog currently mainly deals with articles about life in Istanbul, traveling, Balkan society and culture, and exchange student experiences.

Other things that fascinate me are the future and music, so expect a lot of  that here too!

Because this is a blog that’s mostly about my personal experiences, I’d like to let you know who I am.

My name’s Bas and I’m a 23 year old student from Utrecht, The Netherlands. I’m majoring in International Communication Management and the field of Intercultural Communication fascinates me. I want to work in the field of consultancy (LinkedIn Profile).

I like photography (my Picasa), I like to DJ and whenever I have time I put my mixes on The MiX-Files (as Spartz, EvilAngle and spacescape).

I’m no longer bound to any particular geographical home. After having lived in Sofia, Bulgaria for half a year to work as an intern in the Bulgarian National Radio, I moved back to Holland for half a year.

During that half year I worked with some students from a German university to do an internal communications analysis at the energy company E.ON’s corporate center in Düsseldorf, Germany. After this I studied lobbying and the EU.

I then moved to Istanbul, Turkey to study PR & publicity at Yeditepe University. where I studied more about intercultural communication, public opinion, as well as the scope and social impact of new media.

Right now I’m studying the Future of Music Distribution for my final thesis and do online promotion for a record label in Bulgaria.

My life’s intense. I love many things and I want to do them all at the same time! (and you can follow me on Twitter)
